CHARACTER
NAME: Lapino
CANON: Stories - The Path of Destinies
CANON POINT: Post-True Ending
AGE: Probably somewhere between his 30s-40s
BACKGROUND:
Lapino's backstory before the start of the game isn't covered outside of memories that the protagonist, Reynardo, has of him. But it's clear that they've been friends for years...or at least they had been. It's known that they got into many adventures and trouble, with Reynardo saving him from two lynching mobs and Lapino talking Reynardo out of jail on four occasions. He was also well aware of Reynardo's lingering feelings for the daughter of their enemy, the corrupt emperor, despite neither of them having seen her in fourteen years. He also had a young daughter at some point, and possibly a wife, but he told her mother that he was going out to get Easter eggs and then just never went home. The persisting thing Reynardo remembered is that while Lapino was great company, he was often down on himself and other people. And this fact is the one that sets him down the path to being a much worse person.

Sometime after the once kind emperor became a tyrant, both Lapino and Reynardo joined the Rebellion in an attempt to stop him. Both were fairly freelance and held with some level of suspicion, but Reynardo became a valuable member of the Rebellion while Lapino became a master spy for them. But Reynardo generally got any of the praise and glory for their missions and Lapino barely got any recognition at all. And it's implied that this has been the nature of their friendship for quite some time. Reynardo was the great hero who got all the ladies and was super sexy, while Lapino was the mad idiot who got some rabbit food and didn't even get to know the location of the Rebel base. Eventually, Lapino became fed up and became a traitor to the Rebellion. Not blatantly, of course, because he still needed access to the information he could reach.

At some point, he supposedly ran into some trouble in a small village for selling a pegasus that didn't belong to him. This led to him calling Reynardo for help, though he apparently also confused the judge with the logic that he hadn't stoled the pegasus and only sold it and later been released by a guard who owed him a favor. As a result, by the time Reynardo arrived, he was hanging out in an old cemetery church and shuffling his favorite card deck...while a squad of the emperor's ravens lurked nearby in case he needed them. He feigned innocence when asked about being in danger, stating that he still was because the ravens were on their way. He then said he had a brilliant plan to win the war: kidnapping the emperor's daughter and taking her to be interrogated so that they could get all of the emperor's plans. But his real plan was to have Reynardo lead him to the Rebel base so he could lead the ravens there.

Reynardo agreed to his plan, but also told him about the core of a legendary weapon called the Skyripper that he wanted to get ahold of to make sure the Rebellion could win. They both decided that Reynardo would go kidnap the emperor's daughter and he would go get the Skyripper. Lapino was able to do so and turn it over to the ravens, and still meet Reynardo outside of their target's camp before he could kidnap her. He made sure to arrive looking somewhat beaten down as he lied about having been jumped and losing Skyripper's core to the ravens. Reynardo accepted the story and said they might have a chance if they could get the Iblis Stone to use as a weapon instead. He marked a location on the map and Lapino decided to coincidentally hear something and rush to check it out, with the map in hand.

He found the Stone, which would have begun to corrupt his mind as he carried it. Reynardo purposely didn't tell him about that part, knowing that it would goad him into attacking the emperor. Reynardo had planned for the emperor to use the unstable Skyripper core defend against the now corrupted Lapino and hopefully wipe out both and all of the ravens. Thankfully for Lapino, the emperor's daughter, Zenobia, thought that was a stupid idea and intervened. She somehow knocked him out with drowsy gas and stole the stone, which apparently didn't compel her to kill him on the spot. Reynardo happened by later and realized what had happened, but left Lapino sleeping where he was. That's the last sighting of Lapino in the game.

PERSONALITY:
Though most of the events of the game are only possibilities that Reynardo accessed through a magic book that let him test events years down the line, they all are events that could have happened and so are a good measure of Lapino as a character. They also let Reynardo give a bit more as well.

As mentioned earlier, Lapino can be considered great company. He's a little odd, with big schemes that seem to make no sense but that somehow usually seem to work out. He enjoys a good time and a drink and is never seen without his favorite deck of cards since he considers them lucky. He's basically the perfect wingman, being there for his best friend and bailing him out of trouble while being amusing and making his friend look good. Being a little bit of a troublemaker seems to just be par for the course, but it seems to be more of a lack of maturity than a sense of maliciousness. Except for when it comes to Reynardo.

As a Rebel, it's hinted that he used to be an active combatant, but that's never seen as any hint of a confrontation in his vicinity has been him in hiding in the aftermath or making up an excuse to get out of combat. This is also potentially a facade though. He is a decent actor and very clever, having been able to fool the Rebellion and even his best friend for who knows how long. The only reason that Reynardo found out is that, on multiple paths, his story ends with Lapino killing him in cold blood. Most of the side paths were just Lapino taking advantage of him to undermine his heroism or gain an edge.

Lapino has become quite bitter over the years, mainly towards his former friend Reynardo. He can play it close to the vest most of the time, but in multiple paths it's been shown that it only took one more push to resort to outright murder. He's killed Reynardo for ruining his plans, for coming to save him out of sheer loyalty, and even for being snarky when he finally revealed his grievances. And at one of these points, when he was cast into the abyss for his treachery, he was still too angry to even be afraid of his oncoming death. Despite this, he's not generally reckless though. He doesn't pick fights that he knows he can't win and will attempt to use words first in most situations.

Most people might not ever know the darkness he's carrying if he's treated like any other contributing party. He'll be goofy but cynical and just as light-hearted and casual as you like then. He'll play some cards, have some drinks, and even have an adventure or two. But that bitterness will probably still be there for a while, even if he makes some objectively better friends. Right now, he's still in the mindset of being second fiddle to Super Sexy Reynardo, who always gets to be the hero and get the girl.

POWERS/ABILITIES:
Being a rabbit, Lapino is great at covering distance. He can get most places well before anyone else. He knows his way around both a dagger and a crossbow, both seen in him killing Reynardo, and he might have at least basic sword-training. Reynardo notes that rabbits aren't generally skilled with them, but not in the same demeaning way that he says about toads. He knows how to steer a ship, is great at planning, and can at the very least talk himself out of danger at least enough to stall for time. Beyond that, he's just an ordinary, lanky rabbit.

INVENTORY:
His favorite deck of cards, a dagger, a crossbow, and the clothes on his back.

MOONBLESSING:
Cordis.
